If you didn’t already know Harringtons are a well known and quite well respected dog food company. They specialise in all pet food particularly for cats and dogs.
In the dog food space they tend to focus on dry dog food but they do offer wet food as well, but it seems to me that their dry food is more of their focus and that shows as it seems to be a lot more popular than their wet food amongst dog owners.
Here in my review I have tried a selection of different dog varieties from Harringtons and I have also done lots of market research from other dog owners to get the most broad and in depth view of the foods as possible so I can give you the best insight into the foods as possible.
Below I will be covering 3 of the most popular options from Harringtons – I will be covering their pros/cons so you understand as much as you need to know about the food to help you make a buying decision.
Harringtons Lamb and Rice
This is one of the most popular dry dog foods out there. If you hadn’t already guessed the food is made up from lamb and rice. The lamb makes up 26% of the food which is a respectable amount of protein. The rice makes up about 14% of the food, The other main ingredients that are also included are maize and barley.
After considering the main ingredients you also have a host of other goodies which have been included to get the best out of your pet.
It’s clear that a lot of thought has gone into these dog foods. Lots of small things have been added to get the best out of your dog. For example omega 3 and omega 6 have been added for the host of benefits including glossy coat and its anti-inflammatory effects.
Generally all of the ingredients that have been chosen are ideal for your dogs stomach and should be easily digestible and easily one of the best choices when it comes to a dog food that is suitable for dogs who have problems with digestion or are fussy eaters.
This is due to the makeup of the dog food, thanks to the high quality of ingredients that are being used. Another thing that has been added are citrus extracts – this will boost and strengthen your dog’s immune system thanks to the natural vitamin c contents. These are just a few things I wanted to mention about how the food is made up and the benefits that come with each of the ingredients. These are just a few that I have mentioned but of course there are even more ingredient and benefits included.
On a final note for this food is the general quality of the food that is included. Everything that is included is natural and the benefits that come alongside it are naturally occurring as well. Not to mention that all these ingredients are very high quality and I can easily recommend them because my dog loves them never has had any problems with the food.
- Good amount of meat @ 26%
- High quality ingredients
- Added ingredients tailored for dogs health
- All natural ingredients

Harringtons Salmon and Potato
The salmon and potato food from Harringtons is another top choice from them. It has a very similar make up as lamb and rice mixture with the same food template if you like. The main difference with this one the the main ingredients as you may have guessed. Of course being salmon and potato.
The salmon makes up about 14% of the food and the potato makes up another 14% of the food. In comparison to lamb and rice combination I personally prefer this one. The reason being that salmon and potato both are more nutritious than lamb and rice from a nutritional standpoint. The nutrition that your dog will get from them, particularly the salmon will be tremendous with the like of naturally occurring omega 3 for example.
The rest of the make up is the same as the beef and rice option I talked about above so it’s clear that I really like the food makeup and the balance of the ingredients that have been included.
One thing I didn’t talk about for the prior option is my dogs love for the food. My dog loved this food and this seems to be the common trend with this dog food amongst other dog owners.
I know not everyone wants to hear this but my dogs poos where firm and the way they are meant to be. The general digestion seemed great and my dog had plenty of energy and seemed more joyous than normal. It’s not really a surprise that this food is great for digestion as it has been commonly recommended by vets especially for dogs with digestive problems or even dogs that are fussy eaters.
- Good quality ingredients
- Great for dog health
- Provides dog plenty of energy
- Suitable for fussy eaters

Harringtons Puppy Food (Turkey & Rice)
If you have a new puppy or a younger dog under 1 year old this food could be a great choice for you.
This puppy food follows a similar food template if you like as the other dog foods from Harrington. The main ingredients for this food are turkey and rice. The turkey makes up about 20% of the food and the rice makes up about 15% of the food.
Just as with the other dog foods from Harrington there is no additives and the food has been tailored for great and easy digestion. If your dogs have had digestive issues with other dog foods I would definitely recommend you swap them to this food as it has been proven to usually rectify any of those problems, which makes it one of the best options for both puppies and even grown up dogs.
- Ideal for puppies under 1 year old
- Easy to digest
- No additives
- Only for puppies
Conclusion
So is Harringtons a good dog food? In simple terms yes it is! On a grand scale it’s easy for me to recommend Harringtons dog food. They provide very high quality ingredients that have been carefully chosen to get the best health out of your dog along with no additives or nasty ingredients you sometimes see in other dog foods.
